Testosterone Warnings and Cautions

There are statements in many of these studies warning or cautioning about the need for additional studies to be done before testosterone should be recommended for general use. For example, in the Dementia 1 study the author states, "Testosterone intervention to ameliorate cognitive decline may be warranted only when the efficacy and safety of longer-term use is firmly established."

It is 2007 and I do not agree with that philosophy.

1. Testosterone has been available by prescription since at least 1953. Why hasn't the efficacy and safety been established in over a half a century? Those issues have been investigated and resolved for thousands of drugs during these five-plus decades.

2. In men, the only testosterone safety issue I have ever heard postulated is the one concerning the prostate, especially prostate cancer, which has now been rightfully debunked.

3. In women, I have never heard of any testosterone safety issue actually postulated.

4. In forty years I have never heard of any safety issue related to the properly dosed replacement therapy of any of the many other hormone deficiency diseases. Why should testosterone be an exception?

5. If you elect to wait to replace your testosterone deficiency until these so-called "safety issues" are resolved, it is most likely that you will never take testosterone and as a result have a shorter, less active, less healthy, life.
